Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, also known as nose surgery, corrects imperfections of the nose. The procedure requires a surgeon with great surgical skill and artistic sensibility to plan and execute the procedure, producing a natural appearance. It should be understood that there is an ideal model for each nose. Every case of rhinoplasty or nose surgery is studied in detail and the expectations and limitations are discussed with the patient.

Recommendation:

According to plastic surgeon David Passy, rhinoplasty or nose surgery is sought out by patients who wish to lower or raise their nose, change the positioning of the nose or who wish to correct problems with breathing. The nasal cartilage formation should already be completed before undergoing the rhinoplasty or nose surgery, which usually occurs at age 16.

Scar:

According to Dr. David Passy, there are two techniques of rhinoplasty or nose surgery, endo-rhinoplasty and exo-rhinoplasty. Endo-rhinoplasty is used most, taking place inside the nasal cavities, leaving scars that are imperceptible. In exo-rhinoplasty, the procedure is performed on the outside of the nasal cavity, leaving a small scar on the nose. Considered a relatively new procedure, Dr. David Passy, who serves the cities of Itaperuna, Muriaé and Ipanema, in Rio de Janeiro, also uses rhinomodelation to treat deformities of the nose. Rhinomodelation is a procedure to correct the nose without surgery.

Duration:

The duration of rhinoplasty or nose surgery is 45 minutes to an hour and a half. There is a hospitalization period of 12 to 24 hours.

Anesthesia:

General or local anesthesia can be used during the rhinoplasty or nose surgery procedure.

Postoperative:

The patient must wear a plaster bandage on his nose for seven days. After this period, he may return to work. Physical activity, the beach and pool are permitted only 30 days after rhinoplasty or nose surgery. Do not attempt any significant physical activity during the first week after rhinoplasty or nose surgery. Exercise will only be allowed after 20 days or, depending on your recovery, according to the physician's discretion. Avoid driving in the first week.

Hygiene of the face can be kept with baby wipes. For patients with oily skin, the use of oil control tissue is recommended. The lips can become dry due to breathing from the mouth. For your convenience, use cocoa butter or another lip moisturizer.
Avoid chewing hard foods and try eating food that is nutritious and non-greasy. Do not drink alcohol for the first week after nose surgery or rhinoplasty, because it may increase the edema.

Patients are encouraged to sleep on their backs, so that one side does not get more swollen than the other. Do not worry if this occurs because it will not affect the outcome of the surgery. Avoid the sun for a month after the rhinoplasty or nose surgery. Glasses can be used with approval from your doctor. The result of the nose surgery or rhinoplasty can be seen six months after surgery.
