Facial Surgery

To improve sagging skin of the face and obtain a more youthful appearance, more and more people realize the facelift or rhytidectomy is the procedure for them. According to plastic surgeon David Passy, who serves the cities of Itaperuna, Muriaé and Ipanema, in Rio de Janeiro, facial plastic surgery is performed with minimal incisions, using a micro-camera. The procedure repositions the muscles, removes excess fat and redraws the facial contour.

The facelift or rhytidectomy can be combined with liposuction of the neck, which removes fat from the jowls or the eyelid surgery or blepharoplasty.

Recommended:

The facelift or rhytidectomy is recommended for patients who have a lot of sagging skin and want to rejuvenate their face. Other indications for a facelift are made to correct deep wrinkles on the forehead, fine wrinkles on the lips and chin, excess skin in or around the eyes or even a reduction of the eyebrows and nose.

Duration:

According to the plastic surgeon Passy David, the duration of the facelift or rhytidectomy is 2.5 to 3 hours, with a hospital admission from 12 to 24 hours.

Anesthesia:

During facial rejuvenation, local anesthesia with sedation is given.

Scar:

The scars are much smaller than they were several years ago. They reside around the edge of the ear to the scalp.

Post-surgery:

The day after the facelift or rhytidectomy, the patient may return home and be allowed to bathe and wash their hair. In one week, the patient must return to the office for a follow up. The patient may return to work after 10 to 15 days. The final results of the rhytidectomy or facelift can be seen in six months.

Makeup should be avoided for at least ten days. After this period, it must be light and carefully removed with a moist towelette. You can wash your face gently with mild soap and water.

A bath may be taken as normal. The hair can be washed and combed carefully between the 2nd and 7th day after the facelift. It is important to dry well behind the ear, so that the hairs do not get stuck in this region. Keep your scalp clean and try not to use the hair dryer. If unavoidable, use cold air. Avoid sun exposure for 2 to 3 months after facelift surgery or rhytidectomy.

Recommendations:

Do not smoke for at least 14 days before the facelift surgery. Smoking is a serious enemy of a facelift operation due to the problems caused by nicotine during the healing process. The substance decreases blood flow to the skin, hindering healing.
